Small Children Sink Quickly
Harry Smith

Many adults underestimate the danger small children are exposed to on docks and in boats. Children (and non-swimmers) can disappear quickly in the murky waters of San Diego Bay if they should fall from boats or docks. For that reason, Club and Marina rules require that children under the age of 13 wear life jackets (PFDs) on the docks and in the boats. Similar Coast Guard and California regulations apply to the operation of boats with children on board. Skippers and parents are responsible for the observance of these rules.
Harbor Island West Marina keeps an inventory of PFDs for children and infants at the front office.
Let’s keep our children safe. They sink quickly.
