Maintenance is key
Maintaining a sailboat is no small task, and for dedicated club members, it’s a labor of love. The photos capture the meticulous care and attention to detail that goes into preserving the beauty and functionality of these vessels. Robert Skilling, Convair Sailing Club Chief of Instruction, has recenlty restored the seating and floor in the cockpit of one of our Ensign sailboats. Armed with essential tools and a strong work ethic, wearing a protective mask and working diligently, he sands and smooths the wooden surfaces, ensuring they are in top condition.
This hands-on maintenance is a crucial part of our sailboat club, ensuring the longevity and safety of our club sailboats. The process involves removing old varnish, sanding the wood to a smooth finish, and preparing it for a fresh coat of protective sealant. The work is demanding but rewarding, as it preserves the boat’s integrity and enhances its performance on the water.
For many, this type of maintenance is more than just upkeep; it’s a way to connect with the club and ensure that the club sailboats remain reliable and in a good condition. The dedication shown by members like this keeps the spirit of sailing alive and well in the club. WELL DONE and THANK YOU ROBERT!!
