What to wear when you go Sailing?

When sailing, you need to be prepared for varying conditions. In San Diego we are spoiled with very pleasant weather year round.

  • Long trousers or shorts.
  • Non slip boat shoes or running shoes (tennis shoes) with light soles that will not mark up the deck.
  • T-shirt or shirt.
  • If you are sensitive to the sun wear long sleeves
  • Your favorite hat, with a draw string to prevent it blowing away
  • Sunglasses
  • Windbreaker or jacket
  • Rain jacket or waterproof jacket or top. This provides protection  of rain and ocean spray on windy days.
  • Staying warm is important. When your body temperature drops, your ability to remain clear diminishes and your decision making and sailing skills declines.
  • Gloves are recommended for rope handling. Usually open finger to allow dexterity
  • Additional layers work very well
